Our Story Started With a Problem
Back in 2014, Zara Okafor was teaching computer science at a community college in Vancouver when she noticed something troubling. Students would finish traditional programming courses but couldn't build anything people actually wanted to use. The gap between academic theory and practical skills was huge.
After watching too many talented students struggle to find their footing in the tech industry, Zara started running weekend workshops focused on game development. Not because games are frivolous, but because they're complex enough to teach real programming concepts while being engaging enough to keep students motivated.
What started as informal Saturday sessions in a borrowed classroom has grown into a structured educational platform. But we've kept the same core philosophy: learning works best when you have a mentor guiding you through real projects, not just watching video lectures.
Today, we focus specifically on social casino game development because it combines technical challenges with creative problem-solving, plus there's genuine industry demand for these skills in Canada's growing gaming sector.
