Building Tomorrow's Game Developers

We're a small team of educators who believe that learning game development should be mentored, practical, and genuinely engaging — not just another online course factory.

Our Story Started With a Problem

Back in 2014, Zara Okafor was teaching computer science at a community college in Vancouver when she noticed something troubling. Students would finish traditional programming courses but couldn't build anything people actually wanted to use. The gap between academic theory and practical skills was huge.

After watching too many talented students struggle to find their footing in the tech industry, Zara started running weekend workshops focused on game development. Not because games are frivolous, but because they're complex enough to teach real programming concepts while being engaging enough to keep students motivated.

What started as informal Saturday sessions in a borrowed classroom has grown into a structured educational platform. But we've kept the same core philosophy: learning works best when you have a mentor guiding you through real projects, not just watching video lectures.

Today, we focus specifically on social casino game development because it combines technical challenges with creative problem-solving, plus there's genuine industry demand for these skills in Canada's growing gaming sector.

The People Behind the Platform

Portrait of Zara Okafor, Lead Instructor

Zara Okafor

Lead Instructor & Founder

Former university lecturer turned game development educator. Zara spent eight years in traditional academia before realizing that project-based learning produces better results than theory-heavy curricula. She specializes in JavaScript frameworks and has mentored over 200 students through their first game projects.

Dmitri Volkov

Technical Curriculum Designer

A former senior developer at a Montreal-based gaming studio who joined us in 2019. Dmitri designs our hands-on coding exercises and ensures our curriculum stays current with industry practices. His background in casino game mechanics brings real-world authenticity to our projects.

Priya Mehta

Student Success Coordinator

Handles the human side of online learning. Priya tracks student progress, coordinates study groups, and connects learners with industry professionals. She's also our go-to person for career guidance and portfolio development advice.

How We Actually Teach

Project-First Learning

Instead of spending weeks on syntax and theory, we start with a simple slot machine game on day one. You'll learn JavaScript, CSS animations, and HTML5 canvas by building something tangible. Each concept gets introduced exactly when you need it for your current project.

By week four, you're working on card games. Week eight brings more complex mechanics like bonus rounds and progressive features. The learning curve is steep but manageable because everything connects to what you're actually building.

We've found this approach keeps people engaged better than traditional coursework. When you can play your own game and show it to friends, the motivation to keep learning stays strong.

What Guides Our Work

Mentorship Over Automation

We believe in small cohorts and direct feedback. Every student gets regular one-on-one time with instructors, not just access to discussion forums.

Industry-Relevant Skills

Our curriculum changes based on what employers are actually looking for. We regularly talk to hiring managers at gaming companies to stay current.

Honest Expectations

Learning to code takes time and effort. We don't promise quick transformations or guaranteed job placement — just solid education and genuine support.

Looking Ahead

Our next cohort starts in September 2025, and we're excited to welcome 25 new students into our community. We keep groups small deliberately — it means more personalized attention and stronger connections between classmates. If you're curious about game development and ready to put in consistent effort over twelve weeks, we'd love to hear from you.
